Contract with America.....Renewed

Today, the Republican Study Committee (RSC) released its alternative fiscal year 2007 budget entitled, Contract with America 'Renewed', which would cut more than $650 billion over five years, balance the budget and significantly shrink three cabinet agencies.
The new plan would slash $350 billion from Medicare, Medicaid and other social programs, including saving taxpayers $300 billion through a major reorganization of the Education, Commerce and Energy Departments.
This budget makes real cuts in the sorts of programs that Republicans have long-argued should not be in the federal budget, like agriculture programs, transportation, energy, and commerce programs, even much-needed cuts to excesses in defense programs.
Will the GOP leadership in Congress will be interested in supporting this promising alternative or will it be election year politics as usual?
