Good Money Chasing Bad...Campaign Promise Gone Astray

Smelling a rat, or in this case a Democrat, one must wonder if Congressional Democrats will wear tax cutting smocks only to change into tax hiking tuxedos.

It will be necessary to watch the campaign trail and determine which Democrat may suggest tax cuts as a campaign promise, like hunting a morel mushroom after extended dry weather.

Jon Corzine campaigned on "tax cuts" or at least the suggestion of not raising taxes in the bastion of taxes known as New Jersey. Now the voters are getting what they deserve by voting for Democrats forever. During Corzines campaign he stated, "I'm not considering raising taxes. It's not on my agenda. We have a very high-rate tax structure. I'm not considering it." That was October 2005!

Corzine used the John Kerry play book by promising to not do it, before he decided it was a good idea, demonstrating why politicians can really be trusted. The one-two flip-flop routine.

Governor Corzine submitted a record $30.9 billion budget that increases state spending by 9% and includes $1.5 billion in new levies. Corzine wants to raise the state sales tax by 16% and extend it to services; hike taxes on cigarettes, alcohol and expensive cars; and create a new state water tax. The Governor’s budget would impose a corporate tax surcharge and a commercial property transfer tax.

Corzine also pledged to double property tax rebates. "I'll be the first to acknowledge that some things have to wait," said Mr. Corzine in his budget address. Wait for reelection we suppose. Mr. Corzine is receiving round of applause from fellow Liberals at the local, state and national level for his "straight shooting honesty."

Former Virginia Governor and possible presidential candidate Mark Warner made similar promises while campaigning in 2001. He changed his mind once seated in the Governor's Mansion.

Like Johnny Carson's television show, "Whom Do You Trust?" or "Who Do You Trust?" as it was frequently joked in the 50's, no joking here, Liberals love to tax and spend, we only hope Republicans have learned their spending lessons and retreat back to conservative values.
