Port Politics and Security

The pathetic whining from both sides of the aisle in this mid-election year demonstrates how foolish politicians look. the cuff statements concerning the Dubai port issue without presenting facts and misrepresenting port policy in the United States as a whole.
A foreign-owned company operates Indianapolis International Airport, a facility that serves more than 8 million passengers every year. And the company has stated contractual obligations at the airport, which includes law enforcement!
BAA Indianapolis LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of BAA plc, a private company which owns and operates seven airports in the United Kingdom including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports serving London. Indianapolis International is now the largest privately managed airport in the United States.
Drudge Report provides the following contractual information:
BAA International, LLC, herein called the Employee, provides airport management services for the Indianapolis Airport Authority at the Indianapolis International Airport, herein called the Airport, and for various surrounding municipal airports/heliports. The Employers employs approximately 475 employees to fulfill its contractual obligations at the Airport which include law enforcement, fire prevention, maintenance, custodial, parking lot attending, public relations, marketing, finance, human resources, and other services. Indiana state statute gives the Airport Authority the power to contract with the Employer to provide law enforcement personnel responsible for enforcing state, federal and aviation laws on Airport property, and FAA provides such services 24 hours per day.
In its law enforcement department, the Employer employs approximately 3 security specialists, 70 public safety officers, and 37 police officers.
This story is developing and we're sure to hear some Bush bashing as the Governor of Indiana, Mitch Daniels, is the former Bush administration Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Somehow Democrats will either spin this to their political advantage or ignore it. We hope Republicans will regroup and start explaining port and airport management in factual terms not for political purposes.

My guess is they won't attack Bush over the Indianapolis Airport situation, but will completely ignore it (along with the media) because the deal was done in 1995 under Bill Clinton (obviously)... So this won't be as politically advantageous for them. I'm sure they'll be forced to disapprove of this if they are specifically asked though... But they'll ignore it like the UAE owned cargo operations at JFK.
