Immigration Law Enforcement

People are protesting by the thousands over immigration law. Let's not get confused, it's about immigrants from Mexico and the approach is misguided by the U.S. Congress and people flooding the streets.

It's an election year so Congress must appear diligent and appear as though it cares about immigration law. In fact, instead of earmarking pork projects they should apply more money for enforcement of immigration laws currently on the books and border control.

Citizens and non-citizens are taking to the streets, waving the Mexican flag, skipping school and work to protest current law, current proposed legislation and whatever they feel is necessary to be heard, even if they are supporting breaking the law. Many ordinary individuals have gone so far as say they are in the United States because of money and have their loyalties to Mexico, their native country. The stay home and protest your government.

Current laws should be enforced rigidly not changed to punish illegal immigrants further. Government created this problem by ignoring it and now the numbers of illegal immigrants from south of our border is between 12 and 20 million. Nobody knows the exact figure, it's out of control, growing each day with no end in sight. Stiffening penalties will not solve the problem. Rounding these people up is next to impossible.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service states: An immigrant is a foreign national who has been granted the privilege of living and working permanently in the United States. You must go through a multi-step process to become an immigrant. In most cases, USCIS must first approve an immigrant petition for you, usually filed by an employer or relative. Then, an immigrant visa number must be available to you, even if you are already in the United States. After that, if you are already in the United States, you may apply to adjust to permanent resident status.

A citizen of the United States is a native-born, foreign-born, or naturalized person who owes allegiance to the United States and who is entitled to its protection. In addition to the naturalization process, the United States recognizes the U.S. citizenship of individuals according to two fundamental principles: jus soli, or right of birthplace, and jus sanguinis, or right of blood.

Is the United States supposed to look the other way, ignore our own laws and let the problem go away? The fact is, skipping the process above creates the term, "Illegal Immigrant." Are we supposed to jail 12-20 million people or attempt deportation? Either remedy would not be economically feasible or practical.
Becoming an American citizen does provide for integration into society, and assimilation into the "American Culture." This doesn't mean you ignore or give up your native culture.

The thousands of protestors are waving Mexico's flag, practicing the American's right to assembly and freedom of speech. While leaving the classroom to do so is irresponsible, they should spend their time studying the proper way to become a U.S. citizen. They may wish to memorize the Oath of Allegiance to the United States as follows:

I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
xxx that I will support and defend the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;

that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;

that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;

that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law;

that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.

This is not "Redneck Diplomacy" as in "Love It or Leave" but the United States law! If you want to play, you have to pay. Learning the English language would be an excellent start as well as proper application for citizenship. Businesses are condoning illegal immigrants through hiring practices and providing dual language instructions, ATM's and other means of encouraging the avoidance of a primary language in the American culture. Where is the incentive to learn English if everything is also in Spanish?

Replacing the American flag with that of Mexico is not going to endear the immigration cause, it will serve to further alienate and denigrate active debate. The American flag is a prominent symbol of this countries rights and is frequently mentioned at wartime as a symbol to fight for. It insults every Veteran, dead or alive, who served this United States and humiliates current people in the service.

Citizen rights are earned and failing to abide by those laws is a crime. Using our economy, or employment American's don't want is an excuse, which doesn't enforce laws; we are a country of laws and shouldn't be a country of excuses.

75% of voters strongly support a comprehensive approach on immigration that increases border security, toughens enforcement of current laws, registers current illegal immigrants, and allows illegal immigrants to earn legal status by working, learning English, paying taxes and living crime-free.

Earn it, and don't abuse our rights or our flag. Don't forget where you come from, and don't attempt to alienate U.S. citizens.
