Donald Rumsfeld Resigning

BREAKING NEWS: xxx The Wall Street Journal reports Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years as secretary of defense, Republican officials said Wednesday. Officials said Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, would succeed Mr. Rumsfeld. Gates is currently the president of Texas A & M.

This will be seen as the initial olive branch from the Whitehouse attempting to recover from the beating Republicans took in the mid-term elections. It is now very likely the Senate majority will be run my the Democrats with the loss of Montana.

Rumsfeld was under constant fire by most Democrats and many Republicans. The writing was on the wall and as we have stated below it was time for Mr. Rumsfeld to remove himself since he had become a distraction and this could only continue without change. Of course Democrats are already taking credit for this, however, they should keep the tone civil or appear as partisan hacks.

Dr. Gates is currently a member of the Baker-Hamilton study group on Iraq and will be seen as someone who will possibly implement many of the recommendation of the group and a departure from current policy on Iraq.

Toast not yet, only time will tell. Of course trusting the Liberals and their current sweet talk could be a recipe for disaster.

Gridlock will be good for the economy.
