"Chocolate City" and State Refused Help Pre-Katrina

A ranking Louisiana health official turned down federal offers to help move or evacuate patients as Hurricane Katrina bore down on New Orleans, a newly released document shows. The state's top medical officer said Louisiana coordinated with the federal Health and Human Services Department in evacuating hospitals and nursing homes after Katrina hit.
xxx Two days before the Aug. 29 storm, HHS was told by the state's health emergency preparedness director that the help was not needed, according to an e-mail released Monday by a Senate panel investigating the government's response to Katrina. The state official, identified in the Aug. 27 e-mail as Dr. Roseanne Pratts, "responded no, that they do not require anything at this time and they would be in touch if and when they needed assistance," wrote HHS senior policy analyst Erin Fowler. At least 40 bodies, many of them elderly patients, were found inside a flooded New Orleans hospital after Katrina hit. Thirty-four patients at a nursing home near New Orleans died Aug. 29 in the wake of massive flooding brought by the storm's surge. The nursing home's owners have since been charged with negligent homicide for failing to evacuate the patients. The committee also released a Senate interview of Louisiana Transportation Secretary Johnny Bradberry, during which he told investigators "we have done nothing to fulfill this responsibility" of ensuring evacuation plans are in place for at-risk populations.
xxx "We put no plans in place to do any of this," Bradberry said in the Dec. 21 interview, 12 pages of which were released by the Senate committee.
xxx
The Attic has not seen responses from racist New Orleans Mayor "Willy Wonka" Nagin, pathetic Governor Blanco or the ever whining Senator Landrieu. All other Louisiana politicians were off filtering donations and government aid to personal offshore bank accounts and were not available for comment.

Deal With This Democrat...Washington Dem's!

Chicago Mayor Daley, from the famed Chicago Democratic Machine embraced a radical plan to require every licensed Chicago business open more than 12 hours a day to install indoor and outdoor cameras. "Block clubs, community organizations want cameras. ... They can't walk down the street. ... Their kids have to go around a corner away from the gang-bangers. You can't walk to church. You can't get on the CTA. ... Cameras really prevent much crime. Cameras also solve a lot of crime. The terrorist attacks in London were solved by cameras. The whole incident was solved by cameras," Daley said. Two years ago, with help from a $5.1 million federal homeland security grant, the city announced plans to install 250 cameras at locations thought to be at high risk of a terrorist attack, link them and 2,000 existing cameras to the 911 center and equip them all with software capable of spotting "suspicious and unusual behavior." Chicago City Hall is now finalizing a contract for "Operation Virtual Shield," Daley's Big Brother plan to link 1,000 miles of "sometimes stand-alone fiber" into a unified "homeland security grid" -- complete with sensors to monitor the city's water supply and detect chemical and biological weapons. London has 200,000 cameras monitoring virtually every public move its citizens make. Daley wouldn't go so far as to say he wants to duplicate the London network. He would only say he's "looking for more and more cameras all over."

D.C. Democrats should be choking on the "Big Brother" approach of one of the most formidable Democrats in the nation. Thanks Richie!

Book Reviews NOT...Hate Mongering YES!

I was reading an article by Fred Barnes of The Weekly Standard and decided to examine his new book, 'Rebel-in-Chief: How George W. Bush Is Redefining the Conservative Movement and Transforming America', at Amazon.com.
xxx
The first thing I noticed was the extremely low review rate by people who supposedly read the book (2.5 stars). Unfortunately the left-wing hate mongers monopolized the review section with vitriol, and obvious lack of attention to the purpose of real book reviews. These people never read the book, they wouldn't take the time but they used the service to place one sentence slams on George W. Bush, some actually made lists of things they hate about the President.
xxx
I'm a frequent reviewer at Amazon, writing honest opinions and thought about each book I have used in research or read for enjoyment. I too have become a victim for any review I have written about a book with a favorable premise about conservatives or dialogue not favorable about liberals. I've gotten slammed for a favorable review on a book by Zell Miller because he depicted Democrats as losing their way. Historically they have.
xxx
I took the time to report these non-reviews, the unfortunate thing is Amazon will continue to allow "false reviews" under the guise of free speech. It's a review section not a chat room. This is the best we can expect from the socialist left and the Al Gore-Howard Dean screaming clones.

Free Markets Not A French Thing

A new poll of 20 countries from around the world finds a striking global consensus that the free market economic system is best. In all but one country polled, a majority or plurality agreed with the statement that “the free enterprise system and free market economy is the best system on which to base the future of the world.” On average, 61% agreed while 28% disagreed. Ironically, the country that showed the highest level of support for the free enterprise system was China, with 74% agreeing that it is the best system. Others that were nearly as enthusiastic were the Philippines (73%), the US (71%), and India (70%). France was the one country where most did not agree with this proposition. Only 36% of the French agreed that the free market economy is the best system, while 50% disagreed. Others that only showed plurality support for the proposition were Argentina (42% agree), Russia (43%), and Turkey (47%). In all other cases, agreement was 57% or higher.
xxx
The socialist French don't like "Free Markets" just a "Free Lunch", not in the context of Adam Smith but in the context of "Social Welfare."

War on Terror....Weak-Kneed Liberals Don't Get It!

To hear Kennedy, Schumer, Kerry, Clinton, Reid, Murtha and so many other political hacks one would think al-Qaeda is our friend, citizens of the U.S. who warrant our respect of personal liberties and protection under U.S. Constitutional law. Hollywood as well wastes our airspace on trivial bluster and vitriol about human rights, the American way and Darth Vader, aka George W. Bush.
xxx
Surprisingly some movies have actually telegraphed the greater problem years in advance. In the movie "Nighthawks" circa 1981 actor Nigel Davenport playing an Interpol agent exclaims, "Once and for all, forget this police academy thinking. This is a terrorist! He doesn't think like a criminal. He wants to be a hero and you're going to treat him like some mugger on the streets. Get inside the man's head damn it! To combat violence, you need greater violence. To defeat a violent people you need to be trained to react in a given situation, with ruthless, cold-blooded violence as well."
xxx
Slightly over the top but in fact, war is hell and our troops pay the price in many ways including lost limbs, blindness, post-traumatic stress disorder and death. They make the tough decisions to put their lives on the line for the greater good, the liberties we in the U.S. enjoy and take for granted while we complain about gas prices, long lines and continually whine about small inconveniences.
xxx
Today the Patriot Act and international surveillance are depicted by politicians, the ACLU and mainstream media as infringements on liberty and personal rights. We receive sound bites without any material facts to explain away the truth about FISA, warrants and fighting an enemy in real-time. Intercepting enemy phone calls is necessary and the Executive Branch has a long standing inherent right under the Constitution to protect our freedom as well as our safety.
xxx
Politicians, Hollywood, Cindy Sheehan and the left-wing socialists forget the acts of terror on 9/11, the previous attack on the trade center in the early 90's, the 243 lost Marines in the barracks of Lebanon, the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen, the dead Army Rangers in Somalia, and the hostage crisis in Tehran. These pacifists ignore the daily suicide bombings throughout the Middle East and watch the movie Munich as though it is fiction and a Jewish Olympic team was not really slaughtered at the hands of Arafat's PLO in 1972.
xxx
Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, Iran, North Korea don't want dialogue, they laugh at diplomacy. These terrorist groups, the proponents of evil want destruction of society as the free world enjoys it, at any cost. They want Israel removed from the map as well as the Western world. They can't compete fighting our military so they blow up cafe's, markets and buses frequented by civilians.
xxx
Debra Burlingame, a former attorney, and sister of Charles F. "Chic" Burlingame III, the pilot of American Airlines flight 77, which was crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001 accurately states, "A minority of senators want to gamble with American lives and ‘fix’ national security laws, which they can't show are broken. They seek to eliminate or weaken anti-terrorism measures, which take into account that the Cold War and its slow-moving, analog world of landlines and stationary targets is gone. The threat we face today is a completely new paradigm of global terrorist networks operating in a high-velocity digital age using the Web and fiber-optic technology. After four-and-a-half years without another terrorist attack, these senators think we're safe enough to cave in to the same civil liberties lobby that supported that deadly FISA wall in the first place. What if they, like those lawyers and judges, are simply wrong?"
xxx
Ms. Burlingame further states, NBC News aired an "exclusive" story in 2004 that dramatically recounted how al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar, the San Diego terrorists who would later hijack American Airlines flight 77 and fly it into the Pentagon, received more than a dozen calls from an al Qaeda "switchboard" inside Yemen where al-Mihdhar's brother-in-law lived. The house received calls from Osama Bin Laden and relayed them to operatives around the world. Senior correspondent Lisa Myers told the shocking story of how, "The NSA had the actual phone number in the United States that the switchboard was calling, but didn't deploy that equipment, fearing it would be accused of domestic spying." Back then, the NBC script didn't describe it as "spying on Americans." Instead, it was called one of the "missed opportunities that could have saved 3,000 lives."
xxx
In an interview with Der Spiegel, Steven Spielberg states, " I would die for Israel." However, when examining the entire interview, Spielberg is either hypocrite or ignorant. His left-wing mind is clouded, it doesn't see reality in terror for what it really is. He blames the "right-wing fundamentalists" as "narrow-minded and dogmatic." Spielberg claims his film "Munich" is meant to understand both sides of the equation, Palestinians and Jews. He "humanizes" the terrorists so we may understand them. "Do these critics really mean that terrorists are not human beings? I try not to demonize them."
xxx
Spielberg further states, "Jewish extremists and Palestinian extremists who to this day regard any form of negotiated solution in the Middle East as some kind of betrayal?" We agree, extremist have one mantra, all or nothing. they only see their viewpoint. However, Palestinians are having a hard finding the negotiating table and Arafat signed several agreements he never intended to follow-up on. Now Hamas is the official government of the Palestinians.
xxx
Spielberg then speaks from both sides of his mouth. "I believe that Israel's prime minister had to respond to the monstrous provocation of Munich: Jews were being killed in Germany, and that at the Olympic Games. She could not let an act with such historical implications, such a gross transgression by the Black September movement, go unpunished. Munich was a national trauma for Israel. So in principle I think she did the right thing."
xxx
Spielberg follows-up with, "Violence usually engenders violence." He confuses military action with terrorist action. On the one hand Israel did the right thing by liquidating the terrorists but they caused more violence through their violence. He forgets Israel went to the peace table in good faith with Arafat, a known terrorist in his own right. Arafat failed to comply with his promises, not the other way around.
xxx
Astoundingly Spielberg exclaims, "There is no connection between the Palestinian terror of that time and the al-Qaida terror of today. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Jihadism have nothing to do with each other." Spielberg doesn't explain how he reconciles this statement, he doesn't see Middle East terrorism as spawning from within in itself. He doesn't relate to anti-Semitism, anti-Western teachings within schools throughout the Middle East. Spielberg can't connect the dots yet he thinks his film depicts the truth. He doesn't mention Wahabiism the radical, fundamentalist religion that is taught in schools that teach the children to hate Christians and Jews and teaches them to perpetrate violent acts. It's doubtful Spielberg would find this type of educational system within a Synagogue or Western school.
xxx
Spielberg claims the Iraq war places restrictions on individual freedoms but doesn't comment on torture chambers and liquidation of civilians with mustard gas. Further, he doesn't comment on the torture of Iraqi Olympians. Apparently Saddam Hussein and his ilk get a free pass from the liberals as long as they find it in their agenda to criticize the Bush administration for taking action against terrorism. Killing the terrorists in the trenches is far more productive than worrying about bin Laden. The liberal take is war is bad, we need to seek out bin Laden and begin a truce. Even bin Laden recently suggested a truce, jumping on the Liberal bandwagon. Of course while suggesting a truce, Mr. bin Laden discussed a new terror attack on America.
xxx
Der Spiegel asked Spielberg, "During the first revenge killing shown in the film a shopping bag held by the victim bursts. The spilt milk is mixed with blood on the ground. Is this image saying to the audience: the time of innocence is now over for good?" Spielberg responded, "Actually, the milk motif occurs several times in the film. Milk means life. I wanted to present a constant confrontation between life and death. That is why I also often show Avner's pregnant wife and the baby she gives birth to. Giving life and taking life -- in my film they follow straight on from each other."
xxx
I once heard a Rabbi state, "Life is the most important aspect of Jewish faith." I asked him if he was Pro-Choice. He stated he was as was his wife. I then asked how he reconciles that position with his faith. I never received a response.
xxx
Ms. Burlingames message is clear. The public has listened to years of stinging revelations detailing how the government tied its own hands in stopping the devastating attacks of September 11. It is an irresponsible violation of the public trust for members of Congress to weaken the Patriot Act or jeopardize the NSA terrorist surveillance program because of the same illusory theories that cost us so dearly before, or worse, for rank partisan advantage. If they do, and our country sustains yet another catastrophic attack that these antiterrorism tools could have prevented, the phrase "connect the dots" will resonate again -- but this time it will refer to the trail of innocent American blood which leads directly to the Senate floor.

The Clinton-Carter Take on Terror

Bill Clinton had many opportunitites to rid the world of Bin Laden and other terrorists but found it more advantageous to not fight terror and enjoy other lude activities. It's well documented he left several fighter jets waiting for the order to take out Bin Laden but would not be interrupted from watching a golf match.
xxx
Spending time in Davos, Switzerland attempting to get into the limelight similar to John Kerry, Clinton seem to think we should attempt discussions with the terrorist organization Hamas.
xxx
Clinton suggested Saturday that the West should be more open to eventual talks with Hamas. "You've got to find a way to at least open doors ... and I don't see how we can do it without more contact," he said. Hamas might "acquire a greater sense of responsibility, and as they do, we have to be willing to act on that."
xxx
Apparantly Clinton remains empty headed without any leadership skills. If he had any idea what leadership means he would not make ridiculous statements when Hamas is telling the world, even in Switzerland, that peace with Israel is not an option. The Hamas chief, Khaled Mashaal, reiterated that Hamas would not recognize Israel and indicated attacks on Israeli civilians would continue as long as Israel continued to target Palestinian civilians. "As long as we are under occupation then resistance is our right," he said. Hamas makes excuses when Israel defends itself against terror.
xxx
While the President of Palestine says he will continue negotiations with Israel, Hamas leadership is on the opposite side, inciting more violence so they can blame Israel. Clinton meanwhile still thinks he and pal Jimmy Carter have the answer while they both have an excellent history of failure at defending Americans and getting Palestinians to stand by agreements and treaties.
xxx
The fact is terrorists don't reside at the peace table, they reside behind masks and bomb vests! Terrorists kill innocent people known as "soft targets" because terrorists are gutless. Negotiating with terrorsists is not an option although liberals want us to believe this is the answer. Carter and Clinton have demonstrated how appeasing terrorists like the Mullahs of Iran and Arafat in peace deals and accords have not resulted in forward movement to Middle East peace. Liquidating terrorists, providing economy and liberty will bring peace.
xxx
The latest headline from the Associated Press puts things in perspective. Hamas Won't Renounce Violence, GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — Following their resounding election victory, the Islamic militants of Hamas met the question of whether they will change their stripes with a loud "no": no recognition of Israel, no negotiations, no renunciation of terror. xxx There you have it!

New Orleans May Swing to "White Chocolate"

The city of New Orleans could lose up to 80 percent of its black population if people displaced by Hurricane Katrina are not able to return to damaged neighborhoods, according to an analysis by a Brown University sociologist.
xxx
Half of the white population would not return and 80 percent of the black population would not return.
xxx
"There's very good reason for people to be concerned that the future New Orleans will not be a place for the people who used to live there, that there won't be room in New Orleans for large segments of the population that used to call it home," said Professor John R. Logan, who studies urban areas.
xxx
"The odds of living in a damaged area were clearly much greater for blacks, renters and poor people," the study said. "In these respects the most vulnerable residents turned out also to be at greatest risk."
xxx Elliott Stonecipher, a demographer and political analyst based in Shreveport, La., said the analysis gets to the heart of the debate over how to rebuild New Orleans. Racial tensions have been high with some worried that those in charge of the rebuilding will push black residents out of the city.
xxx
If this study proves true, racist Mayor Nagin may be sent packing in future elections when his constituents realize his racist tone and bigotry do not reflect their definition of true leadership.

DNC Chairman Back "Home" Again in Indiana

Howard Dean visited Northwest Indiana, no where near the Sycamores or the Wabash. I can certainly vouch he was closer to one of the worst areas of the United States for corruption and crime, Lake County.
xxx
Lake County Indiana has a history of the "Democratic Machine" at it's best from the likes of East Chicago, Hammond and Gary, the premiere capital of murder. However, Dr. Dean thinks Indiana is a "Blue State" because for 16 years the Governors mansion was occupied by Democrats. Yes, Governor O'Bannon took Indiana into the deficit toilet and Hoosiers made a decision to elect conservative Mitch Daniels to clean up the mess. And what a mess!
xxx
Lake County Democratic Chairman Rudy Clay said Dean's visit gave the county organization respect. Yes and next up will be former Gary Mayor Richard Hatcher whose racist ideals sent Gary into the crime ridden ghetto of the century. "We're going to try to take Indiana out of the red and put it in the blue column," Clay said. Why not work on corruption using the money from your gambling boats and quit blaming Republicans for your inept leadership?
xxx
Another part of Dean's strategy to win voters is to convince Evangelical Christians, who have become the steadfast voters for the Republican party, that they are voting for a party of "selfishness."
xxx
Outside the banquet hall, members of the "Northwest Indiana Coalition against the Iraq War" picketed. If they wish to picket they might visit every city hall in the county and picket for a war on drugs, the natural economy for Lake County along with gambling.
xxx
Lake County Indiana is the perfect place to demonstrate what Democrats can do for you. Drugs, Gambling, Ghettos, Crime, Crime and More Crime. Did we forget political corruption that would make Jack Abramoff shiver?

Hollywood's Gay-Lesbian and other Diverse Obsessions

I was duped into watching a movie last evening called, "The Object of My Affection" (1998), however it would have passed in the plural with "affections" as the movie sometimes led one to believe the gay male might turn straight.
xxx
The movie was funny, I laughed out loud several times, but in the end (no pun intended) it seemed all about diversity with the gay choosing his male friend, the female choosing a black male as a husband, the estranged husband sharing the newborn child with the mother and her gay friend, then everyone getting together becoming accepting and tolerant, which is good. Was this commonplace as the hostess would suggest, that this was the encapsulated version of America? I think not and made it plain in my analysis.
xxx
The problem is I disagreed with the real motives of the movie, partly because liberal elitest Alan Alda played a small part in the movie and I felt the "comedy" was a little bit more than just laughs. I felt it had the hand of left-wing Hollywood creatively demonstrating to us how we should be pro-choice, the Dad doesn't really matter altogether, and we can be irresponsible when choosing between sex and contraception because abortion is always a possibility. "Object of My Affection" did a good job of demonstrating the alternative and the offspring was indeed the final object of everyone's affection. Is this typical of reality, I think not once again.
xxx
This leads me to the crop of films making their way through movie theaters and to the Academy Awards.
  • Brokeback Mountain - Based on a story by Annie Proulx, 'Brokeback Mountain' tells the story of two Wyoming cowboys who find they can't keep their calloused hands off each other while out on the range. Even through dutiful marriage, kids and life, their love for one another never dies.
  • Capote - An excellent author and well-known New York socialite there is no mistaking Truman Capote's sexual preference in real life.
  • Happy Endings - Three loosely interrelated stories of dysfunctional relationships are played for edgy laughs in this dark comedy drama. Step-Brother and Step-Sister produce a child put up for adoption. Meanwhile, Charley (Steve Coogan), now out of the closet, has a longstanding relationship with Gil (David Sutcliffe), and the couple are involved in a legal battle over whether or not Gil's donated sperm produced a baby who has been adopted by a lesbian couple they know.
  • Guys and Balls - A battle for gay rights is fought on a small-time football field. a talented soccer goalie who plays with a semi-pro team in a small German town, but he finds himself on the outs with his teammates when he fails to block a kick that costs the team the league championship. Ecki's relationship with the team goes from bad to worse when they discover he's gay, and they give him his walking papers.
  • Dorian Blues - A young man comes to terms with growing up gay in this independent comedy drama.
  • Hellbent - Received its world premiere at the 2004 San Francisco Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. Cops investigate crimes at a West Hollywood gay Halloween party.
  • Gay Sex in the 70's - In 1969, the Stonewall riots in New York City sounded the opening bell of the Gay Pride movement in America, and for many gay men it offered an opportunity to come out of the closet and live their lives in the open for the first time. As the gay community sought to define itself, it's not surprising that sex, once furtive and approached with no small amount of fear and shame, suddenly became openly and publicly celebrated and sought after, and in a handful of American cities, the gay scene became the center of a wildly celebratory orgy that lasted until 1981, when the discovery of AIDS led many men to reexamine their sexual habits.
  • Three of Hearts: A Postmodern Family - Steven Margolin and Sam Cagnina had been together for seven years when Samantha Singh came along, and the once-couple became a romantic threesome. Filmmaker Susan Kaplan captures the story of a nontraditional family consisting of three consenting adults, two of whom are bisexual. Shot over an eight-year span, the film follows the domestic struggles between bisexuals Sam and Steven and their live-in straight partner, Samantha, whom they found through a creaky "audition" process. Everything's fine until the threesome decides to conceive a child … and then things really get complicated.
  • Transamerica - A born-again Christian named Bree (Felicity Huffman) gets the shock of her life when the son she never knew existed calls and tells her he's in jail. Bree -- who's almost completed a series of sex-change operations -- actually turns out to be Toby's (Kevin Zegers) father.

Hollywood feels mainstream America is ready for explicit sex between men on the big screen and with Brokeback Mountain is going after the most masculine group in the John Wayne, "Marboro Man" type to ride into the sunset. They feel showing born-again Christians as transgenders to be in the norm.

We're sure the Academy Awards will offer prizes to many of these movies while they send their anti-war, anti-Bush themes across the airwaves during acceptance speeches. It's our choice not to watch and our country is built on liberty and free expression. Ready or not Gay/Lesbian movies provide a choice but the amount of films made for 2005 are beginning to show a trend with an attempt at innoculating the non-believers.

It's no secret Hollywood produces many films to simply make a statement, they should be as tolerant of folks in the "mainstream" as they are about the fringes. One shouldn't believe these films are a real snapshot of America but only a small collection of photos.

Whom Do You Trust? Google Bargains with the Devil!

Google Inc. (providers of this blog service) launched a Chinese search service, agreeing, after much internal debate, to censor its own search results in order to comply with Beijing's strict limits on access to information.
xxx The site, Google.cn, is critical to Google's competition with both Western and Chinese rivals, Google executives believe. In designing the service, the Mountain View, Calif., search giant believes it has reached an acceptable balance between compliance with Chinese laws and its corporate mission to make all of the world's information universally accessible.
xxx
What is an acceptable balance in the world of competition and capitalism, which this blog supports including a complete free market system. China is setting rules of restriction which support censorship and free markets, not to mention free speech.
xxx
In running Google.cn, Google said, it will remove links to sites believed offensive to the Chinese government, on the understanding the government will then allow Google to use computer servers located in China.
xxx
Google says it won't host user-generated content, such as blogs or email, on computer servers in China, at least for now. Such materials can be vulnerable to seizure by the government when located on servers there. Google also plans to alert Chinese users to censored materials by placing a short notice at the bottom of the search-results page. It is unclear whether the Chinese government will tolerate such notification.
xxx
In a statement, Google Senior Policy Counsel Andrew McLaughlin said: "While removing search results is inconsistent with Google's mission, providing no information (or a heavily degraded user experience that amounts to no information) is more inconsistent with our mission."
xxx
Spoken like a lawyer, out both sides of his mouth! Under the guise of competition Google is getting in the proverbial bed of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. Did we forget Chairman Mao?
xxx
At the same time the U.S. Government is requesting Google to hand over millions of search records - [Gonzalez v. Google] a request that Google is adamantly refusing - they are jumping in bed with a country that subjugates free speech. We agree with Googles fight against the U.S. Government at the same time we're at odds with their alliance with China. AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo! received identical subpoenas and chose to comply with them rather than fight the request in court. Shame on them!
xxx
The Bush administration's request, first reported by The San Jose Mercury News, is part of its attempts to defend the 1998 Child Online Protection Act (Copa), which is being challenged in court in Philadelphia by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). ACLU said websites cannot realistically comply with Copa and that the law violates the right to freedom of speech mandated by the First Amendment. To an extent we must admit to agreeing with the left-wing ACLU, probably a first.
xxxx
Enforcing laws does not require condoning censorship. In both cases the governments are infringing on individual rights. Google can't seem to make up it's mind where they stand, as long as it takes care of the bottom line.

Racists and the Race Baiters

From the First Lady of the First "Black" American President:
xxx
Speaking at an event in Harlem honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) said the GOP-controlled House of Representatives "has been run like a plantation, and you know what I'm talking about. It has been run in a way so that nobody with a contrary view has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard."
xxx
And now for some Hot Chocolate:
xxx
"I don't care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day," New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day speech. "This city will be a majority African-American city. It's the way God wants it to be."
xxx
Now for the Recipe: xxx "How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about," Mayor Nagin explained. We imagine that recipe might not fly on Bourbon Street.
xxx
So there you have it, elected officials sometimes called "leaders" using race for political purposes, to rally crowds and eventually create more hate. Clinton and Nagin resemble the attitude of the liberal left, where hate mongoring and deplorable actions equate to their brand of leadership. These people would rather get votes while inciting riots then actually providing a plan to get things done. They are what's worst in politics and worst while placating to the socialist left.

Congressional Reform - Is That Pork Burning???

When Republicans took control of the purse strings in 1995, the federal budget was $1.5 trillion. It is now $2.55 trillion a year -- or $5 million a minute -- and the latest Treasury data reveal that in Fiscal 2005 federal outlays grew by another $179 billion, an 8% increase and more than twice the rate of inflation. So much for small government, tight fisted, and fiscally responsible Republicans, who call themselves Conservatives. By definition, Conservative means favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change; traditional or restrained in style; moderate; cautious. Place these definitions alongside “Fiscally” and Republicans are not conservative. The term “Neo-Con” also irks me, similar to the term “Born Again.” What?? You just discovered Barry Goldwater conservatism? You have just discovered the existence of Jesus Christ? Where have you been living, in a cave? And the neo-cons as well as the born-again crowd look down on the folks who discovered these principles long ago! Talk radio is full of these clowns, the Sean Hannity’s and Glen Beck’s who “discuss” politics and promote their religion over the airwaves. They have people call in only to cut them off so they can hear themselves speak. What’s missing from these shows is real conservatism as an agenda. These talk guru’s are ignorant of economics and finance, and don’t know the difference between macro and micro. They spend much of their time ranting over the no-nothing left but leave real conservative issues hidden. If they were responsible to conservative virtues they would be criticizing Tom Delay and congressional leaders who earmark bills with pork and spend taxpayer dollars like drunken sailors. While jumping on the bandwagon for the war on terror they are unable to discuss congressional budgets and deficits for what they really are – Liberal clones. While inviting Tom Delay on the air to discuss his demise they fail to ask him why he supports wild spending and ignores fiscal conservative values.
xxx
The 2006 Defense bill contains an all-time record 2,600 earmarks. This is a fourfold increase since 2001, and includes $3.4 million for the Lewis and Clark bicentennial and $500,000 for the Arctic Winter Games, to be held in Alaska.
xxx
Years ago politician used to cry, "a chicken in every pot" but we should now ask them to please hold the pork. While liberals cry about Roe v. Wade we would ask Republicans to abort the widespread earmarks to bridges going nowhere.

Post Saddam Iraq...Insurgency Planned with Training

In his new memoir about his year in Iraq, L. Paul Bremer reports that in July of 2003 he was told about a captured document from Saddam's intelligence service (dated January 2003) outlining a "strategy of organized resistance" if the regime fell.
xxx
About the same time, pamphlets began circulating in Baghdad describing the "Party of Return," with vows to kill Iraqis who worked with the Coalition. It's also known that documents discovered with Saddam in his rabbit hole in late 2003 included a claim that the insurgents would know they had won when a U.S. Presidential candidate called for withdrawing American troops from Iraq.
xxx
Stephen Hayes writes in The Weekly Standard, The former Iraqi Regime of Saddam Hussein trained thousands of radical Islamic terrorists from the region at camps in Iraq over the four years immediately preceding the U.S. invasion, according to documents and photographs recovered by the U.S. military in postwar Iraq.
xxx
The secret training took place primarily at three camps--in Samarra, Ramadi, and Salman Pak--and was directed by elite Iraqi military units. Interviews by U.S. government interrogators with Iraqi regime officials and military leaders corroborate the documentary evidence. Many of the fighters were drawn from terrorist groups in northern Africa with close ties to al Qaeda, chief among them Algeria's GSPC and the Sudanese Islamic Army. Some 2,000 terrorists were trained at these Iraqi camps each year from 1999 to 2002, putting the total number at or above 8,000. Hayes corroborates this information by no less than eleven (11) U.S. government officials.
xxx
The Wall Street Journal suggests this, Sounds like news to us. Yet the rest of the press has ignored the story, and for that matter the Bush Administration has also been dumb.
xxx
Hayes reports, the photographs and documents on Iraqi training camps come from a collection of some 2 million "exploitable items" captured in postwar Iraq and Afghanistan. They include handwritten notes, typed documents, audiotapes, videotapes, compact discs, floppy discs, and computer hard drives. The photographs and documents on Iraqi training camps come from a collection of some 2 million "exploitable items" captured in postwar Iraq and Afghanistan. Taken together, this collection could give U.S. Intelligence officials and policymakers an inside look at the activities of the former Iraqi regime in the months and years before the Iraq war.
xxx
One intelligence official quote is quite disturbing. "As much as we overestimated WMD, it appears we underestimated [Saddam Hussein's] support for transregional terrorists."
xxx
Many agenda driven politicians such as Carl Levin (D-MI) claim Saddam would never link himself with outside terror groups because, "Saddam's regime is intensely secular and is wary of Islamic revolutionary movements. Moreover, Baghdad is unlikely to provide assistance to a group it cannot control." WRONG!!
xxx
Hayes further discusses testimony in a Dallas courtroom at the deportation hearing of Ahmed Mohamed Barodi, a 42-year-old Syrian-born man who's been living in Texas for the last 15 years. Barodi proudly proclaimed his membership in the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, and again when Barodi, dressed in loose-fitting blue prison garb, told Judge J. Anthony Rogers about the 21 days he spent in February 1982 training with other members of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood at a camp in Iraq.
xxx
According to documents Saddam reached out to terrorist as far back as 1979. He used the terrorsists and they used him. Not so strange bedfellows.
xxx
Further disputing Mr. Levin's claims of a secular Saddam regime Hussein Kamel, Saddam's son-in-law who defected to Jordan in 1995, explained these changes in an interview with Rolf Ekeus, then head of the U.N. weapons inspection program. "The government of Iraq is instigating fundamentalism in the country," he said, adding, "Every party member has to pass a religious exam. They even stopped party meetings for prayers."
xxx
The Iraqi regime sponsored "Popular Islamic Conferences" at the al Rashid Hotel that drew the most radical Islamists from throughout the region to Baghdad. Hayes discusses a Newsweek article by Christopher Dickey who wrote, "Islamic radicals from all over the Middle East, Africa and Asia converged on Baghdad to show their solidarity with Iraq in the face of American aggression." One speaker praised "the mujahed Saddam Hussein, who is leading this nation against the nonbelievers." Another speaker said, "Everyone has a task to do, which is to go against the American state.
xxx
Dickey stated, "Every time I hear diplomats and politicians, whether in Washington or the capitals of Europe, declare that Saddam Hussein is a 'secular Baathist ideologue' who has nothing do with Islamists or with terrorist calls to jihad, I think of that afternoon and I wonder what they're talking about. If that was not a fledgling Qaeda itself at the Rashid convention, it sure was Saddam's version of it."
xxx
Past articles and new found documents give us great incite on the realm of Saddam Hussien but leave us with some burning questions. The largest problem is these documents are being interpreted at a snails pace in a program called DOCEX. Out of approximately 2 million documents only a mere 50,000 have been
translated. One former official suggest this rate and sluggish approach of interpretation, "means our great-grandchildren will still be dealing with this problem."
xxx
Despite the fact these documents are not being translated faster does not dilute the importance of the information they provide up to now and will no doubt provide in the future. As Stephen Hayes has corroborated to the chagrin of the left, Saddam Hussein was, in fact, recruiting, supporting the training, arming and facilitating terrorist groups within the borders of Iraq for years.
xxx
All attempts to suggest impeachment of George W. Bush by the left are as ridiculous as the suggestion Saddam Hussein never used weapons of mass destruction, didn't have the ability to reconstitute WMD, or didn't harbor terrorist factions within Iraq. The present insurgency by the Party of Return demonstrates the relationship between terrorist groups and Saddam Hussein. All liberals have to do is check the facts that currently exist, they simply choose not to.

Kennedy Leading "Jackass" at Alito Hearings

A day with Senator Teddy Kennedy (D-MA) near a camera will present him with an opportunity to make completely false statements and lie through his yellow teeth. Kennedy certainly resembles his parties mascot.
xxx
Instead of asking Judge Alito a question, Kennedy opines as follows:
xxx
Judge, in just the past month, Americans have learned that the president instructed the National Security Agency to spy on them at home.
xxx
And they've seen an intense public debate over when the FBI can look at their library records.
xxx
And they've heard the president announce that he has accepted the McCain amendment barring torture. But then just days later, as he signed it into law, the president's decided he still could order torture whenever he believed it was necessary: no check, no balance, no independent oversight.
xxx
So, Judge, we all want to protect our communities from terrorists. But we don't want our children and grandchildren to live in an America that accepts torture and eavesdropping on American citizens as a way of life.
xxx
We need an independent and vigilant Supreme Court to keep that from happening, to enforce the constitutional boundaries on presidential power and blow the whistle when the president goes too far.
xxx Congress passes laws, but this president says that he has the sole power to decide whether or not he has to obey those laws. Is that proper? I don't think so.
xxx
But perhaps most disturbing is the almost total disregard in your record for the impact of these abuses of powers on the rights and liberties of individual citizens.
xxx
It's also amazing to listen to Kennedy, a man coming from a family built on bootlegged profits, with a history of extra-marial affairs, leaving the scene of an accident where a young girl lost her life while riding with a drunk who thinks he is above the law.
xxx
In the early 60's we lived under foolish Hollywood disguise of "Camelot" and now we see where the leftist Kennedy clan has evolved. Ted Kennedy is a socialist, Marxist who has only survived because of a mindless electorate and money made from Daddy's illicit activities. Teddy is a drunk whose family money got him into and out of Harvard and protected him from prison.
Kennedy is an embarrassment to the nomination hearings of Judge Alito and he's an insult to anything good in the Democratic process.

Alito Statement has Message for Teddy Kennedy

"And after I graduated from high school, I went a full 12 miles down the road, but really to a different world when I entered Princeton University. A generation earlier, I think that somebody from my background probably would not have felt fully comfortable at a college like Princeton. But, by the time I graduated from high school, things had changed.
xxx And this was a time of great intellectual excitement for me. Both college and law school opened up new worlds of ideas. But this was back in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
xxx It was a time of turmoil at colleges and universities. And I saw some very smart people and very privileged people behaving irresponsibly. And I couldn't help making a contrast between some of the worst of what I saw on the campus and the good sense and the decency of the people back in my own community."
xxx
~ Judge Samuel Alito
Supreme Court Nominee
xxx
"Privileged people behaving irresponsibility." Many who oppose Judge Alito have indecent pasts and certainly display their irresponsibility to causes with a blind eye to reality. Ted Kennedy falls in this category, with his rhetoric and classless assault on President Bush, filled with inneuendo and lies in his opening statement directed towards Judge Alitio. Kennedy doesn't even have the ability or class to learn and pronounce Judge Alito's name correctly.
xxx
Kennedy demonstrates what is bad about politicians, and how a career politician from privilege can reside in the halls of Democracy as a socialist dunce. Watching and listening to Ted Kennedy makes a person wonder what voters in Massachusetts are thinking about at the ballot box. John Adams is rolling over in his grave.

Teddy Kennedy Joins Tookie Williams

Meet the latest children's author, Sen. Ted Kennedy, and his Portuguese Water Dog, Splash, his co-protagonist in "My Senator and Me: A Dogs-Eye View of Washington, D.C." Scholastic Inc. will release the book in May.
xxx
"I am very excited about the opportunity to create a book for young readers and their families that will deepen their understanding of how our American government works," Kennedy said in a statement Monday issued by Scholastic.
According to Scholastic, Kennedy's book "not only takes readers through a full day in the Senator's life, but also explains how a bill becomes a law." Kennedy, a Massachusetts Democrat, was inspired to write the book from his work with a Washington-based reading program, "Everybody Wins!"
xxx
Well we have a paradox or two here. While Kennedy was inspired by a reading program where "everybody wins", Kennedy represents losing for everybody. His socialist thinking and policies harm the people he professes to protect and his hate for anything conservative certainly taints the premise of a win-win situation.
xxx
Certainly Senator Kennedy's driving and guilty plea to "leaving the scene of an accident" was not a winning deal for Mary Jo Kopechne at Chappaquiddick. Certainly the book does not cover drunken driving. While covering a day in the Senator's life we doubt he will cover frequent visits to the liquor cabinet.
xxx
Like Tookie Williams, who wrote childrens books while on death row at San Quentin, Senator Kennedy is now writing similar books while his career remains locked on death row.

Juan Williams, A Dunce in the Affirmative!

I must say TV news programs are becoming exceedingly boring, ridiculous and offer nothing in substance. I can only hope Wall Street Week with Paul Gigot reappears.
xxx
In the mean time I tune in to FoxNews Sunday to listen to Juan Williams shill for the DNC with his ridiculous comments and pooh, poohing about race, affirmative action or how horrible conservatives are. And by no means does he let George W. Bush off the hook on WMD's, education or anything that presents an issue for the weak minded left.
xxx
This brings me to yesterday when Mr. Williams provides us with the obligatory "race bait" in his opinion on Judge Alito's confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court.
xxx
Judge Alito will be smeared with innuendo that he is a racist because of his membership more than two decades ago in a Princeton alumni group that opposed affirmative action and coeducation at his alma mater. The membership of Concerned Alumni of Princeton included its share of screwballs -- its unofficial motto, "Bring Back the Old Princeton," is the butt of jokes at class reunions today. But it's hardly fair to tag every member with the sins of orange-and-black nostalgists. In any event, Judge Alito, who was never active, joined to support the group's efforts to keep ROTC on campus.
xxx
Williams got off WMD's in Iraq for a change only to complain about the honorable Judge Alito's membership at Princeton. Williams couldn't get into a formidable institution like Princeton with or without affirmative action and quotas. Williams lacks the intellectual ability to qualify. We see how he got the job at NPR and Fox. Since he offers nothing of substance he must moved to the head of the class for fair and balanced quotas as well as shilling for the left-wing.

Torture, Nazi's and Winston Churchill

With today's "debate" on prisoner interrogation and torture we find it interesting how Winston Churchill, often celebrated on both sides of the aisle, would have treated Adolf Hitler and his subordinates.
xxx
The Scotsman writes, "Winston Churchill was determined to send Adolf Hitler to the electric chair if he was ever captured and believed that senior Nazis should be summarily executed without the benefit of a trial, according to papers released this week."
xxx
The British Prime Minister's brutal attitude towards his enemies is revealed in newly published records from meetings of the War Cabinet. The Cabinet held a series of discussions about how to deal with war criminals between 1942 and 1945 - the years covered by the notes. At one meeting in December 1942 Churchill commented: "Contemplate that if Hitler falls into our hands we shall certainly put him to death. Not a Sovereign who could be said to be in the hands of Ministers, like Kaiser. This man is the mainspring of evil."
xxx
Capital punishment in Britain at the time involved hanging, but - perhaps with a degree of tongue in cheek - Churchill suggested electrocution equipment could be obtained through the US's Lend-Lease scheme for providing goods to its Allies. "Instrument - electric chair, for gangsters no doubt available on Lease Lend."
xxx
In April 1945, Home Secretary Herbert Morrison expressed the opinion - seemingly popular with his colleagues - that a "mock trial" for Nazi leaders would be "objectionable": "Better to declare that we shall put them to death." Churchill agreed that a trial for Hitler would be "a farce": "All sorts of complications ensue as soon as you admit a fair trial."
xxx
Apparently "waterboarding" was not an option, we're sure Churchill would have approved. However, while President Bush leads the war on terrorism and his weak-kneed critics opine relentlessly, we might suggest a famous quotation concerning leadership by Sir Winston Churchill.
xxx
"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."

Can President Bush still see Vladimir Putin's Soul?

"I looked the man in the eye. I was able to get a sense of his soul." Or did he? Was it an illusion? Was this a serious miscalculation? During President Bush's first term Vladimir Putin, Russia's President, was a guest at the Crawford, Texas ranch in June 2001. President Bush must have been mistaken and now Russia's President takes chairmanship of the G-8 Democratic nations, an absurdity by any standard.
xxx
A year ago, Mr. Putin called the demise of the Soviet empire the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century." President Reagan considered this the "Evil Empire." Reagan once said, "The strength of the Solidarity movement in Poland demonstrates the truth told in an underground joke in the Soviet Union. It is that the Soviet Union would remain a one-party nation even if an opposition party were permitted because everyone would join the opposition party. It is the Soviet Union that runs against the tide of history by denying human freedom and human dignity to its citizens." In his heart President Putin misses the U.S.S.R. as he rolls back democracy in Russia and is currently threatening the new democratic government of Ukraine by declining to stand by an agreement to supply natural gas to that country.
xxx
Last week Andrei Illarionov, who since 2000 handled Russia's negotiations with the G-8, resigned on the grounds that Russia is no longer politically or economically free. "It is one thing to work in a country that is partly free," he said. "It is another thing when the political system has changed and the country has stopped being free and democratic." Russia claims itself to be a "managed democracy" and is growing itself while it may look different to western democracy.
xxx
The Russian lower house of parliament has passed a controversial bill to tighten controls on non-governmental organizations (NGO's). The bill - criticised by human rights groups and the West - passed its third and final reading in a 357-20 vote in the Duma, dominated by pro-Kremlin MPs. Foreign NGOs can be closed if they threaten Russia's "national interests."
xxx
The rule of law is a cornerstone of democracy and essential to a well-functioning market economy. Without the rule of law, low public confidence in the legal system and diminished investor interest will stall all other reforms. Mr. Putin held new parlimentary elections, which effectively destroyed the opposition majority and placed his cronies into power. Elections are held, but candidates out of favor with the Kremlin are often knocked off the ballot. Courts conduct trials, but the state almost never loses. Parliament meets but only to rubber-stamp Kremlin legislation.
xxx
The Kremlin press pool is a handpicked group of reporters, most of whom work for the state and the rest selected for their fidelity to the Kremlin's rules of the game. Helpful questions are often planted. Unwelcome questions are not allowed. And anyone who gets out of line can get out of the pool, or worse.
xxx
The Kremlin press pool is like so many institutions in Russia that have the trappings of a Western-style pluralistic society but operate under a different set of understandings, part of what analyst Lilia Shevtsova of the Carnegie Moscow Center calls "the illusion of democracy." Television channels air newscasts with fancy graphics but follow scripts approved by the Kremlin. At least 12 journalists have been murdered in Russia since Mr. Putin took office, making Russia the fifth most dangerous country for journalists in the world. Not a single one of these cases has been solved.
xxx
President Bush and other G-8 leaders should take a play out of the Gipper's handbook. On June 8, 1982 President Reagan spoke to The House of Commons.
xxx
"The objective I propose is quite simple to state: to foster the infrastructure of democracy, the system of a free press, unions, political parties, universities, which allows a people to choose their own way to develop their own culture, to reconcile their own differences through peaceful means.
xxx
Who would voluntarily choose not to have the right to vote, decide to purchase government propaganda handouts instead of independent newspapers, prefer government to worker-controlled unions, opt for land to be owned by the state instead of those who till it, want government repression of religious liberty, a single political party instead of a free choice, a rigid cultural orthodoxy instead of democratic tolerance and diversity."
xxx
Years later we're still waiting and so are the Russian people. Who would think a former KGB agent could be trusted to have a soul and emboldened to lead Democratic nations?
